Program Director

Promise Welkin Partner

Promise came to QuEST in May 2017 from a twelve year career as an English teacher, dorm parent, student advisor, and college counselor in independent high schools. She has her BA from Bryn Mawr College and her MA from Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury College. A New Englander by birth, with a strong (some say strange) affinity for Ohio, Promise has lived in the Pacific Northwest since 2013. She has been active in the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) for about fifteen years, most recently at Eugene Friends Meeting in Oregon, and is a member of the 2016-2017 cohort of the Way of the Spirit: Contemplative Study in Community, a convergent Friends’ spiritual formation program. In supporting QuEST Fellows, Promise draws on her formative experiences in community as a college student in an activist co-op and as a young teacher at a Quaker boarding school and farm, as well as her year serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA. She seeks to nurture QuEST Fellows in their professional and personal growth, providing spiritual grounding for their work for social change in a time of unrest and inequity.
